Mary-Melinda Wellsandt
sand-etched glass vases

Mary-Melinda has been making "pretty things" since she was about 3 years old, painting the gravel from her driveway with watercolors and peddling it around to the neighbors. In the years that have passed her work has become refined and sophisticated, but she has retained her 3-year-old sense of joy and delight in her creations. Mary-Melinda’s current work uses functional glass as a surface to explore. The process includes the use of a sandblaster to carve away the glass surface, then permanent paints, enamels (and other assorted mixed media) fill in the negative spaces rendering her original drawings, photos and paintings in a very unique way. Her pieces are meant to be used as floral vessels but are striking by themselves.
