Alan and Rosemary Bennett
ceramic fish for the wall

Experiences in and around the water have strongly influenced the Bennetts' work. The process begins with a series of sketches. Then they use stoneware clay or porcelain to make the basic forms. The forms are hollowed out, and the porcelain teeth and eyes are added. The pieces are bisque fired, and glazes are applied by dipping, spraying and brushing. Lastly, the pieces are glaze fired in one of three ways: a magnesium carbonate "fish" glaze, an ancient Japanese "raku" glaze, or a high zinc "crystal" glaze. The end result is a lively work of art that expresses color, texture and movement.
